2013 International Robot Hands-on Competition & Symposium was held on December 15 in Taipei. The basketball robot developed by the NTU-iCeiRA with stable high shooting rate and agile response defeated the international teams and Xiamen University team who is the winning team after an internal competition in China. In IRHOCS contest, the NTU team wrote a brilliant record of five consecutive champions this year.

For the past few years, governments of Taiwan and France have emphasized on transforming the research results into the beneficial motive for the state economy. Both of the countries rely on SEMs mainly and have the corresponding innovative abilities and techniques. Based on the present cooperative results and the exchange relationship, the promotion of cooperative stage and state economy could be done by facilitating producing study cooperative connections.

President.Ma went to the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall for attending the Opening Ceremony of 2013 Taipei International Industrial Automation Exhibition and Robot Exhibition this morning. We all know that it takes 5 walking days and needs 325 Chinese workers to assemble an iPad, such that it can be on sale. Then, can you imagine that these Chinese workers will be replaced by robotic arms someday?

With the advances in technology , as well as the low birth rate and the aging trends, the demand of robot is ever increasing. Intelligent Robotics and automation are highly interdisciplinary learning, and the integration of the mechanical , electrical electronic , information communication and automation of the academic theories and the applications of technology. This topic is high industrial relevant, a locomotive industry , having widespread applications, and making the improvement of the wisdom life and the quality of life.

The brand-new Taipei Robot Pavilion will be unveiled on Feb. 6, 2013 in the Xinsheng Park Area of TAIPEI EXPO PARK, with an impressive collection including robots showing the popular “Gangnam Style” dance moves, as well as the “NAO Robot” imported from France by National Taiwan University (NTU), and the violin-playing, basketball-shooting and wrestling robots, not to mention the numerous scale models of Gundam!

The IRHOCS 2012 is organized by NTU iCeiRA, along with International Automation Research Center and Taiwan Yushan Robotics Association. This year’s contest drew the participation of teams from several colleges all over Mainland China, Singapore, and Indonesia. The difficulty of the contest rises comparing to the previous years’. The robot needs to work with the human player as a team. The mobile platform should be able to pass the ball to the contestant who would shoot and score. In the next stage of the competition, the robot is asked to pick a ball before sliding into the fixed spot for a free throw. Since total automation is mandatory throughout the contest, each team must import the source code for precise actions before the contest begins.

In the 2012 national robotic competition held by the ministry of education and the ministry of economic affairs, professor Ren C. Luo, along with students Wei-Lung Hsu, Kai-Jie Huang, Ming Hsiao, Yun-Hsuan Tsai, Peng-Si Chang(phd and master students), Jhen Lin and Yan-Rong Lee(special project students) have won the championship of competition of robotic products with intelligence and creativity with the robot “Multi-functional panda-like companion robot RCMO”.

National Taiwan University (NTU) and three leading French research institutes have teamed up to develop intelligent robots over the next five years, university officials said yesterday.
