Dr.RACHID ALAMI

Head of LAAS-CNRS

Dr. RACHID ALAMI is Senior Scientist at CNRS. He received an engineer diploma in computer science in 1978 from ENSEEIHT, and a Ph.D in Robotics in 1983 from the University Paul Sabatier. He contributed and took important responsibilities in several national, European and international research and/or collaborative projects (EUREKA: FAMOS, AMR and I-ARES projects, ESPRIT: MARTHA, PROMotion, ECLA, IST: COMETS, IST FP6 and FP7 projects COGNIRON, URUS, PHRIENDS, CHRIS France: ARA, VAP-RISP for planetary rovers, PROMIP, ANR projects). His main research contributions fall in the fields of Robot Architectures, Task and motion planning, multi-robot cooperation, and human-robot interaction. Rachid Alami is currently the head of the Robotics and AI Department at LAAS.

 

Dr.Christian Laugier

Dr. Christian Laugier received the PhD and the “State Doctor” degrees in Computer Science from Grenoble University (France) in 1976 and 1987 respectively. He is a First class Research Director at INRIA (French National Institute for Research on Computer Science and Control), and he is the Scientific Leader of the e-Motion team-project (http://emotion.inrialpes.fr) common to INRIA Rhône-Alpes and to the LIG Laboratory (http://www.liglab.fr/). He is also responsible of the Scientific Relations with Asia & Oceania at the International Affairs Department of INRIA, and he is Deputy Director of the LIG Laboratory involving about 500 peoples. From 1987 to 1992 he was Deputy Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (LIFIA) of Grenoble. He has been invited researcher at MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (1987) and at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (1998).

His current research interests mainly lie in the areas of Motion Autonomy, Intelligent Vehicles, Decisional Architectures, and Bayesian Reasoning. He has directed or co-directed more than 30 PhD theses, and he has authored or co-authored numerous international publications in these areas; he also presented invited and keynote talks in several conferences such as IEEE ITSC, FSR, or ICARCV. He has co-edited several books, e.g. recent Springer STAR books on “Autonomous navigation in Dynamics Environments” and on “Probabilistic Reasoning and Decision Making in Sensory-Motors Systems”; he has also co-edited several special issues of scientific journals such as IJRR, Advanced Robotics, JFR, or IEEE Transactions on ITS. In 1997, he was awarded the Nakamura Prize for his contributions on “Intelligent Robots and Systems”.

In addition to his research and teaching activities, he participated in the start-up of four industrial companies in the fields of Robotics, Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, and Bayesian Programming tools. He holds three patents related to autonomous driving applications, including one shared with Toyota. He also served as Scientific Consultant for the ITMI, Aleph Technologies, and Probayes companies.

 

Dr.Anne Spalanzani

INRIA

ince 2003, Anne Spalanzani is associate professor at Pierre-Mendès-France University and member of the e-Motion project-team of LIG Laboratory (Laboratory of Informatics of Grenoble. She received her PhD in Computer Science entitled "Evolutionary Algorithms for the study of the Robustness of Speech Recognition Systems" from the Joseph Fourier University in 1999. She spent 1 year at the CNR of Rome working on “Learning and Evolution”. Her research focuses now on risk based navigation and human aware navigation. She coordinates an ict-asia project on service robotics and she coordinates the work of her team in the INRIA Large Scale Initiative Action PAL on assistance to mobility for elderly people.
